Kyoto protocol and emissions trading

We participate in the emission trading by installing a clay atomisation and a cogeneration plant at Ceramica Vives I.
What is the Kyoto Protocol??
Kyoto Protocol was signed in 1997 when the International Community became aware of the importance of the climate change and its relation with the greenhouse gas emissions. The developed countries intended to achieve stabilization of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system. Kyoto protocol created a range of tools to ensure the fulfilment of the agreements, such us the emission trading. Through the Directive 2003/87/CE of the European Parliament establish the European Emission Trading Scheme, Law 1/2005 of 9th march in the Spanish Legislation.
The emissions trading
Vives participate in the emissions trading through its new clay atomisation and cogeneration plant at Ceramica Vives I, since this installation is included in the law 1/2005, after the modification of 33rd article of the Real Decreto Ley 5/2005 dated 11th march, classified in the statement “another combustion installations with a nominal power over 20MW not included in the sections 2 to 9”. This installation has been authorised by the Conselleria de Medio Ambiente for the greenhouse gas emissions and is included in the Plan Nacional de Asignación de derechos de emisión de gases de efecto invernadero 2008 – 2012 (National plan for the greenhouse gas emissions assignation), issuing an average of 17.257 of emission rights per year.
A small contribution in the fight against climate change
Vives has achieved also the reduction of CO2 emissions by the equipment of Ferraes Cerámica premises with a new and pioneer system for the plastic treatments of the pallets in which the use of natural gas is not necessary. It is possible to reduce the natural gas consume about 2400Nm3/year, equivalent to an emissions reduction by 5,2 tones of CO2 a year, helping with the fight against the global warming.
